Gift Certificates

A photo Safari is a perfect gift for that person who just loves to take pictures.

Gift Certificates Available: Are you giving someone a new camera for a birthday or the holidays? If so, you can give them a chance to “test drive” their new equipment at sites around the nation’s capital by giving them an attractive Washington Photo Safari Gift Certificate. It has a beautiful photo of the US Capitol and it now comes in SEVEN convenient sizes and types.

NOTE: Your recipient does NOT have to take the Safari category you have chosen—he or she may apply the value of the gift certificate towards ANY Safari, paying an additional amount if the value of the Safari chosen exceeds the value of the certificate. The certificate expires 24 months from its date of issue, but the recipient will be responsible for any price increase in a particular type of Safari. The certificate is refundable, less a 3% service charge.

Small: the $64 certificate, valid for one Saturday afternoon “walking” Safari in a specific neighborhood or tourist attraction, such as Adams-Morgan, or the U.S. Botanic Gardens, or “Afternoon Cherry Blossoms.” Your recipient can choose a Safari from the list that appears by month on the website calendar.

Nighttime Safaris: This $74 certificate entitles the bearer to participate in one of our popular nighttime photography training safaris such as “Monuments at Night” (offered every Friday April 23 through October 29), or “Presidential and War Memorials at Night”, or “Full Moonrise Over The Nation’s Capital.”

Medium: the $84 half-day Safari, our basic “Monuments and Memorials” workshop, conducted Wednesdays and Saturdays, with transportation provided to such photogenic sites as Lafayette Park,  the White House, Lincoln, Korea and Vietnam Memorials, the Capitol, and Union Station. The Wednesday afternoon half-day Safari includes the Adams-Morgan neighborhood,  the Washington National Cathedral, and the Iwo Jima Memorial/ Netherlands Carillon. (We recommend this half-day Safari as a prelude to any of the site-specific Saturday “walking Safaris.” Topics covered include holding the camera, identifying the subject,  good composition, lighting, exposure control, outdoor portraiture, candids, and interior photography without flash.)

Digital and Portraiture Safaris:  We offer special training in digital photography, with $99 classes in Basic Digital Camera Use, and camera-specific safaris for the the Nikon D3000 /D5000, the Nikon D50/60, the Nikon D300/ 300s,  the Canon 40D and 50D, the Canon 7D and the Canon Rebel Xsi, /XT/XTi/ T1i, and the Olympus E-520/450/420 cameras, a perfect way to help your gift recipient get maximum use out of that new digital camera. We also offer $99 training workshops in such areas as pet photography, flash and macro photography, indoor and outdoor portrait photography at the beginner, intermediate, including instruction on studio lighting, and specialized nature, cityscape and landscape photography courses.

Large: the $149 full-day Safari, which includes the two half-days described above, or a morning half-day Safari and an afternoon $64 specialized Safari.

Private Tutoring:  Individual instruction tailored to fit the specific needs of your recipient is available at a price of $200 per two-hour session, providing one-on-one instruction in such areas as travel , architectural, museum interior, event, nighttime, and general photography plus proper use of new camera equipment.

Our new $229 Jumbo PackageSamm includes one $84 half-day Safari and three $64 Saturday afternoon “walking” Safaris, for a mere $229, a 16% savings off the regular $276 price. “Today I took the Canon Safari with Melanie Otto this morning and I wanted to let you know that it was a GREAT class!!! As, I’m sure you have been told before, Melanie was an EXCELLENT teacher. She was very personable and knowledgeable and did a great job explaining the ins and outs of my camera (something I have been trying unsuccessfully to do on my own for almost a year!) I know that my photography skills will improve greatly after learning all she taught us. I would recommend that class to anyone who wants to learn more about the camera or just photo skills in general. Thank you for organizing such a great experience!”

“I cannot tell you how very much enjoyed the Adams-Morgan Safari! My pictures turned out great, and I learned a lot. Thanks for putting these together and for your patience with all of the photographers in the making!”

“Saturday’s Safari was the closest I’ve taken to a photography class. The simple tips on adjusting white balance, ISO settings and trick metering have—and I mean this—revolutionized my approach to taking pictures. I look forward to learning more. Thanks, again, and be well.”

“David, You are a born, patient, teacher, a kind person, and your tour was most instructive, and most important, fun.  I thank you and look forward to more photo tours.”
