David Luria is the founder and director of the Washington Photo Safari™.
David Luria is a DC-based professional commercial photographer specializing in architecture, landmarks, restaurant and event photography. Trained in Paris at the Parsons School of Design by a protégé of Henri Cartier Bresson, he is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, the Association of Independent Architectural Photographers, and the Society of Photographic Educators. His images of Washington DC have appeared on 30 magazine covers and in over 100 publications, including 24 photographs in the coffee-table book "Washington DC Visions."
He also serves as Contributing Photographer to WHERE-Washington Magazine, the Entertainment Book, and the Washington Post’s Apartment Showcase and Washington Spaces Magazines, and his Washington Photo Safaris have trained over 21,000 amateur photographers in basic techniques of travel, landmark, portrait, museum, nighttime, and other photographic specialties.
In addition to serving as the prime instructor for Washington Photo Safari, he also does photography instruction for Penn Camera, the Smithsonian Resident Associates program, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Kreeger Museum, Things to Do DC, Professionals in the City, and many local camera clubs. Mr. Luria has appeared as photographic expert on WAMU.FM's Kojo Nmandi Show and also as a luncheon speaker at the National Press Club.
Eddie Arrossi
Eddie Arrossi is an independent photographer in the Washington DC area specializing in photojournalism, weddings, and corporate events who covers local news events for the Spanish New Agency EFE. Raised in Argentina, Eddie began his work at age 16 and became one of the more prominent travel photographers in Buenos Aires, developing a large portfiolio of images that appear on post cards and travel books sold throughout Argentina's capital city and at Iguacu Falls. He has also photographed extensively on his travels to Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, the UK, Holland and the Czech Republic. Now a resident of Bowie, MD since 2002, Eddie frequently serves as an instructor for Washington Photo Safari. His work can be seen at his website http://www.eaphoto.com
Bob Blanken
Robert N. 'Bob' Blanken, CPP, Cr. Photog. is a Faculty member of both the Washington Photo Safari and the Panasonic Digital Photography Academy. He also leads local classes for the Professional Photographers of America. Bob is past president of The Professional Photographers Society of Greater Washington and the Maryland Professional Photographers Association. He is the 2006 and 2002 (ISES) Capital Award Winner for Best Social Photographer, and the 2003 ISES Capital Award Winner for Best Corporate Photographer. Bob has been nominated 19 times as Best Photographer by the Greater Washington Chapter of the International Special Events Society and three times by the International Society.
Michael DeAngelis
Michael DeAngelis is a Washington DC-based photojournalist and fine art photographer. He is a contributing photographer to DCist.com, The Silver Spring Voice and GuestofaGuest.com. His work has appeared in publications such as Momentum Magazine, Capital Community News’ East of the River paper, Schmap Online Travel Guides and WeLoveDC.com. Michael has worked for several not-for-profit organizations such as DC Cares, The Neighborhood Farm Initiative, The Media and Democracy Coalition, The Lesson One Foundation, Baker School Extended Day Program and most recently, for Washington DC’s Public Schools.
While not working on assignment Michael is working on several personal projects that can be seen on his website, www.mdeangelis.net. Michael was trained at Boston University’s Center For Digital Imagining Arts in Georgetown where he received a degree in Digital Photography. He also holds a B.A. from Rutgers University in Computer Science.
Jay Gibson
Jay Gibson is CEO of Gibson Photographic Arts. Ltd. a Washington based professional commercial photographer. Specializing in large corporate multi-day events, international travel and wildlife photography. He is a member of Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, Society of Sport & Event Photographers and Professional Photographers of America, and a Gold member of the management team of the Prince William PPA. His international travel and wildlife photography and articles may be seen and read in travel and airline magazines. Prints of the same decorate the walls of many fine homes, restaurants and offices. In addition to financially rewarding photography he also practices “Photo-Philanthropy” for such organizations as: the Washington, DC ”Central Union Mission”, “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep”, and “Yellow Ribbon Photographers”.
Marketa Jirouskova
Safari instructor Marketa Jirouskova is a freelance photojournalist named “Photographer of the Year” by the International Photographic Society at the World Bank/IMF in Washington DC. A native of the Czech Republic, Ms. Jirouskova received her Masters Degree in Film from the Prague Film School, has photographed and filmed in 70+ countries and is the recipient of 40+ photographic awards. She has been published in six European magazines including the Readers Digest and her work has been shown in over 20+ exhibitions around the world. As photographer and filmmaker, she was the first Czech person who reached two farthest points on our planet reachable by a vessel: Bay of Whales in Antarctica (on February 2, 2006) and the Geographic North Pole (on two occasions: July 2 and July 14, 2007).
Donna T. Jones
Donna T. Jones is a commercial photographer, educator and fine-art photographer. In addition to Washington Photo Safari, Donna teaches at Howard Community College, Glen Echo Photoworks, The Art League School, and The Washington School of Photography. She in a partner in F/STOP STUDIO and photo editor/co-producer of the book Ethiopia from the Heart.
David Muse
David Muse is a freelance photography, teacher, and writer. His photo assignments and travels have taken him throughout the Baltimore/Washington DC metropolitan area, the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland’s mountains, the Mid-Atlantic Region, the American Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and Western Europe.
Each year David leads a number of popular photo safaris, photo weekends, and hands-on workshops in and around Baltimore and across the Mid-Atlantic region. He shows people where to find great images and how to capture them. David has taught nature and outdoor photography through Irvine Nature Center (http://www.explorenature.org) near Baltimore. His students say he is an informed and patient instructor whose enthusiasm for photography is contagious.
In addition to the training he provides through his company Baltimore Photo Safari, David is an instructor for Photographers Alliance Workshops, an exciting photography workshop cooperative (http://paworkshops.net), and for Washington Photo Safari.
David is an avid writer whose byline has appeared on a number of print and online articles. Next spring his first book, Photographing Baltimore, Annapolis, and the Chesapeake Bay (Countryman Press), appears in bookstores nationwide. David and his wife live in one of the historic neighborhoods surrounding Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. From their rooftop they enjoy a wonderful view of Baltimore’s iconic Domino Sugar sign. Catsby, their cat, graciously allows them to live with her. When he is not photographing, David enjoys reading, walking, hiking, seeking out new restaurants, and watching his granddaughter. A second grandchild is due next year.
Melanie Otto
Melanie Otto is a professional photographer from Oxon Hill, MD, specializing in event work, portraiture (corporate as well as personal), product photography, architectural and interior, as well as shooting weddings and sports. She is a digital specialist though she loves film, too, and is always up for a photographic adventure of travel or landscape work. She has had the honor of appearing on more than one of Kojo Nnamdi’s WAMU 88.5 FM Tech Tuesday Shows discussing digital photography and the industry’s products. Melanie has been individualizing her photo tutoring for over 6 years, bringing her innovative approach to hundreds seeking a better understanding of a wide range of photo topics.
Sean Quintilian
Since he first bought a used Pentax K1000 in 1989 Sean Quintilian has traveled over much of North America in search of outstanding wildlife and nature photographs. His body of work includes images from 14 U.S. National Parks and dozens of National Wildlife Refuges, with over 100 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles recorded. Sean has spent over 600 days on location over the past 17 years including 20 weeks in Yellowstone National Park alone. His work has appeared in publications, exhibits and even a CD jacket. His fine art prints have graced the walls of many offices and homes. During the past three years Sean has started a growing portrait and wedding business. Sean lives in Abingdon Maryland with his wife Jessica and daughter Juliana.
Judy Reisman
After a 20-year career as a technical translator for the World Bank, Judy turned to photography full-time, switching from writing with words to writing with light. Teaching at the Washington School of Photography brought her joy in sharing her passion for photography with others as well as accolades from her students. She now hosts photo tours in Frederick County and in the Shenandoah Valley for the Washington Photo Safari and does pet and people portraiture and fine-art nature prints for private clients, as well as private tutoring. She is currently editing a book on photography and building her fine-art and stock portfolios.
Judy Rolfe
A former USA Today photo editor, Judy G. Rolfe has established herself as a well-known freelance photographer in the Washington, D.C. and Delmarva areas. In 1992, she decided to leave her steady career as a photo editor and attempt to make a living looking through a camera lens rather than a photo loupe.Judy received her first camera from her parents at age 14 and has been shooting pictures ever since. Her leap into freelance photography was the realization of a life-long dream. Her photography career is now a way of life, taking her on jobs all over the United States and, most recently, to China, Indonesia, Central and South America, the Balkans, and West Africa. Her photos not only reflect her peripatetic lifestyle and home on the East Coast, but also the early influences of growing up on a farm, surrounded by animals, and later moving to the Delaware Coast where she developed a love for the ocean and its environs.
Steve Rosenbach
Steve Rosenbach is an award-winning photographer and popular photo tour leader. An ex-New Yorker, he has lived in the Annapolis area for 20 years. Steve specializes in finding unusual images at any location and he will share this experience with you by taking you to the best photo locations and showing you the best picture angles during your Safari.
Michael Rosenberg
Michael Rosenberg is certified by the New York Institute of Photography, graduated from Northern Virginia Community College. In 2004, he opened a studio in Lorton, Virginia where he produces portraits and stock photography. He specializes in nature and landscape images. Joseph Tessmer
Joseph Tessmer has been awarded the Master of Photographer, Photographic Craftsman and Associate Fellow of Photography professional degrees. He has completed his term as governor of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association and is actively involved in the Washington metropolitan photographic community. Hundreds of his photographs have been published in national and international magazines. He has taught a variety of photography courses at the amateur and professional level. In recent professional competition one of his images won best of show and two others received Court of Honor ribbons and have been included in the photography international loan collection. Currently his work is on display at Dulles International Airport to welcome visitors to Washington.
John Witschey
John Witschey specializes in stock photography as well as weddings, events and assignments. His stock portfolio is represented by Folio, Inc., in Falls Church, Virginia, and includes images of Washington, D.C. and the Mid-Atlantic as well as images of the natural world from across the United States.
