A photojournalist is a visual storyteller. And as such, we tell stories with a series of photos and one photo at a time.
Washington Photo Safari is pleased to present this latest safari in street photography, and we are honored to have it taught by a Pulitzer-Prize winning photojournalist: Essdras Suarez. Its goal is not only to help you make better images but to also help you tell stories with your images, thus creating more intricate and complex images.
And we have a perfect venue in which to learn these techniques: a major rally on the National Mall to confront racism and to honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr,. on the anniversary of his death 50 years ago in 1968!
You will learn how to cover rallies where some of the most famous historic rallies in the history of the US have taken place: The National Mall., in front of the Lincoln Memorial where Dr. King gave his famous “I Have A Dream “ speech.-
During this safari, you will:
Entitled “Act Now! Unite To End Racism!”, this rally will take place on the National Mall in front of the Lincoln Memorial, with an expected crowd of 10,000 people.
During this four- hour photo workshop ,we will pay close attention to the quality of light as it strikes people and inert structures; thus affecting the feel of a photograph. We will also capture those candid moments that tell a story of human relationships.
We will urge you to pretend that you are covering this event for a major publication, so here are the journalistic techniques you will pick up in this safari:
Requirements to attend this street photography workshop:
We recommend you bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera body, a wide angle lens for great depth of field, and a telephoto lens of at least 200mm. All in-one-zoom lenses like an 18-270 or a 16-300 are very good for this type of work to avoid rapid lens changing.
Remember: this is a workshop to deepen your understanding of street photography so that you will come back from your travels with unusual iconic images to share with your family and friends.
The workshop will begin with a presentation on street photography technique, followed by a 3.5 hour walk around the Mall grounds, during which Mr. Suarez will work with each client individually in capturing unusual and artistically composed images.
