Quick Details
Black Bears, Wild Horses and Pelicans all in one 4 day workshop! Not to mention 2 lighthouses, some lovely sunsets and delicious fish tacos.
Join Nature photographer Sean Quintilian for 4 full days of photography in North Carolina Low Country and the outer banks. Each day will start with first light black bears on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, home to some of the largest black bears in North America. As the bears settle down for a midday rest, we will break for brunch and a break, then spend the afternoons on the Outer Banks photographing brown pelicans flying along the surf, an afternoon with the wild horses of Corolla, dune photography and two lighthouses.
Specific photographic techniques for photographing dark subjects in challenging light, panning techniques for birds in flight as well landscape techniques. Special attention for using long telephoto lenses and getting good sharp results.
Rooms have been reserved at The Scarborough Inn on Manteo Island for all participants. The room cost for 5 nights will be approximately $750 total for 5 nights, due at check in. This location is a perfect spot to reach the bears in the morning and the beach in the afternoon.
A full range of lenses from wide angle to long telephoto will come in handy for this trip. The bear and bird photography will benefit from a telephoto lens in the 400-600mm range. Instructor Sean Quintilian will be very happy to help you arrange for a rental.

Here is what one safarian had to say about the Outer Banks Safari:
Couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Sean has an extensive knowledge base and plenty of experience in both photography and wildlife. Saw much more than I expected and learned a great deal, not only from Sean but from the other photographers as well. Plus, I have quite a number of shots I’m quite pleased with. Highest recommendation! David P., Woodbridge, VA
This workshop has room for a maximum of 5 participants.

This workshop can use your whole range of photographic equipment. A telephoto lens of 400mm or longer is highly recommended for the bears and birds, Sean can help with advice for renting a lens if you need to. A good wide angle to short telephoto zoom will help with the landscapes, as well as a polarizing filter. The instructor can help with any gear advice and a suggested list will be sent out after you register.
