Quick Details
This safari will focus on photographic design and making stronger and successful images. We will walk around the picturesque historic downtown area, combining street photography with close-in vignettes and abstract compositions. For photographers at all skill levels and with any type of equipment, including cell phone cameras.
Professional photographer Judy Reisman specializes in creative photographic technique and is a resident of Frederick.
Frederick is well known for the “clustered spires” skyline of its historic downtown churches. These spires are depicted on the city’s seal and many other city-affiliated logos and insignia. The phrase “clustered spires” is used as the name of several city locations such as Clustered Spires Cemetery and the city-operated Clustered Spires Golf Course.
The housing stock of downtown Frederick is mostly composed of 19th- and 20th-century row housing and duplexes. The scale of this older part of the city is dense, with streets and sidewalks suitable for pedestrians, and a variety of shops and restaurants, comprising what Forbes magazine in 2010 called one of the United States’ “Greatest Neighborhoods”.

After a 20-year career as a technical translator for the World Bank, Judy Reisman turned to photography full-time, switching from writing with words to writing with light. Teaching at the Washington School of Photography brought her joy in sharing her passion for photography with others as well as accolades from her students. She now hosts photo tours in Frederick County and in the Shenandoah Valley for the Washington Photo Safari and does pet and people portraiture and fine-art nature prints for private clients as well as private tutoring.
Judy is a very enthusiastic instructor who tries to accommodate the instructional needs of all participants, regardless of where they are in their photographic journey.
